Our Impact

Since 2013, our organization has achieved notable success through ongoing efforts to boost the numbers of spay and neuter surgeries, as well as to facilitate countless urgent care/advanced medical care procedures. In 2019 and 2020 combined, our programs served almost two thousand dogs and cats throughout the Tri-Valley region and beyond. This feat has been accomplished by a small team of tireless volunteers who have formed reciprocal agreements with a broad network of local non-profit organizations and veterinary providers. Ultimately, we strive to create lasting partnerships that keep pets healthy, thus allowing them to stay with their owners, or find foster and forever families.

OUR SUCCESS STORIES

2024

Lenny

Lenny

This big, regal boy was found as a tiny kitten over 15 years ago in San Ramon and was saved by another organization that one of our supporters volunteered with all those years ago. He was adopted out to a loving home at the time, but 6 years later had to be returned due to the family falling on very hard times. He was then fostered by one of our alliance rescue groups and subsequently found yet another forever family. Paws in Need helped with his updated vaccines, bloodwork and overall veterinary exam, etc., to make certain he was ready for his new family. From atop a dumpster behind a big box grocery market in San Ramon to a lovely San Jose home with a huge yard, Lenny then hit the jackpot again! He has been with his wonderful second family for 9 years now; he takes walks with a harness, and loves his human sister and his doggie sister, Birdy (also a rescue!) We love happy "tails" and receiving these updates!

Cleopatra

Cleopatra

This striking kitten was found as a baby on the patio of a realtor in Livermore. They were getting ready to relocate and could not make her their own. After checking with all of the neighbors, posting flyers and on social media, nobody claimed this baby kitten. They have no idea how she just showed up on their patio one day. Wanting to do the right thing and getting her spayed before finding her a forever home, they reached out to us. We spayed Cleopatra through our low-cost spay program once she made weight. Then a wonderful rescue, Safe Cat, took her into their foster program and found her a fantastic, perfect Danville forever home. We recently received this picture from Cleo's new family, where she has everybody right where she wants them. She's ruling the house like her very own Kingdom. We are so happy for Queen Cleo.

Bambi

Sweet Bambi was found as a tiny baby on a rather rural Pleasanton property along with her siblings and stray mom. Two Good Samaritan neighbors joined forces to secure them and that's when we were contacted about our low-cost spay and neuter program. Bambi has now been fixed and was taken in by our friends at Save Cat Foundation to search for her forever home. Bambi's mom was taken in by one of the neighbors and is living a very nice indoor life and recovering nicely from her spay surgery, too. A happy ending for this family of 5 and no more litters!

Jazzy

This precious dog is very loved by her family! Understanding the importance of spaying and neutering your pet, they contacted us to utilize our low-cost spay program because of the exorbitant prices they were being quoted for a female large breed dog. Paws in Need was all too happy to accommodate! Jazzy has now recovered from her surgery and is back to her normal self with her siblings and wonderful parents. Good for you Jazzy for being adopted by such a great family!

Rocco

Rocco's lovely family contacted us about getting their Boston terrier fixed. While they own two dogs, one of them recently had to undergo a major surgery for several thousand dollars, all because she was not spayed. Not wanting to make that same mistake again, they contacted us about utilizing our low-cost neuter program for Rocco. We were happy to oblige and agreed, another very costly surgery should not be chanced. Rocco's neuter was scheduled and we have an update from his family, he is all recovered and back rough-housing with his doggie sister, Angel.

Sugar

Sugar was found at a senior living facility by a Paws in Need volunteer. She had full intention of finding her a home (something we have all said a time or two!) Sugar was fixed through our low cost spay program and while a forever family was being sought, she captured their hearts. As you can see, she has taken over the bed and likes to watch TV with her own remote control. We think she looks pretty safe and happy, don't you agree? Way to make yourself at home, Sugar!

Tweety

Found as a stray when she was just a baby, we were contacted by a Livermore family to utilize our low-cost spay/neuter program. Having animals of their own, they were not in a position to keep Tweety and are also looking to rehome her. Paws in Need was happy to assist them through our program so they could get her fixed and vaccinated at a reasonable cost before she goes onto her forever family. A special thank you and "paws applause" goes to families who help community animals!

Midnight

This is one lucky semi feral cat. He happened upon a Tri-Valley ranch and the owner wanted to make sure he or she was fixed, so there were no more kittens born on the property. They were able to safely trap him and contacted us about utilizing our low-cost Spay/Neuter program. Unfixed males can impregnate an untold amount of females, especially during kitten season. We were all too happy to assist and set this up immediately with our partners at Animal Medical Center. Turns out this poor guy was suffering from a severe urinary tract infection in addition to needing to be neutered and vaccinated. The owners of the ranch were nice enough to get a large recovery cage and keep him safe while he was on antibiotics, recovering from neuter surgery and simultaneously acclimating him to their property. The ranch owner reports Midnight is very happy on the property and sleeps in the hay barn and frolics around with the other couple of feral cats living on the property. This was a very happy ending for Midnight and we got another forgotten community animal fixed and in a safe spot.

Wanda

Wanda

We were contacted by Wanda's owner to financially assist with an urgent care surgery needed for a category III lumpectomy. Otherwise healthy with a good to great prognosis, we were happy to help this family with an assistance grant in their time of need. They also received financial assistance for this very serious surgery from PetSmart charities, Contra Costa County and East Bay SPCA Oakland, along with us at Paws in Need. As we've said before, sometimes it takes a village, and in this case, it was wonderful to see four organizations come together to save Wanda. Thanks to her owners and all involved, Wanda is on her path to recovery.

Rocky

Rocky

Handsome Rocky was found wandering with an injury to his head. A Good Samaritan found him and took him home. Friendly, she started searching for the owners. Contacting shelters, neighbors and Animal Control, after a month nobody claimed him. She reached out to us for low-cost neuter help before finding him a forever home. We were happy to oblige. Once fixed and recovered from both the injury to the head and the neuter surgery, our friends at Feral Cat Foundation took him into their foster program. They reported recently he was adopted within two weeks to a wonderful family with a young boy and a dog. A happy tails ending for handsome Rocky.

Max_Update

Max_Update

You may remember Max from a previous story. This is an update to share a wonderful success story for this handsome boy. Max was dumped in a park and found by the most wonderful people anyone could ask for. After trying to find his owner and following all the rules, sadly it was clear nobody was looking for him. His new family then contacted us about utilizing our low-cost neuter program for this big boy. We were very happy to assist with this need. His wonderful forever family reports he has fit right in, is loved by parents, kids, dog sibling Millie and even 2 rescue cats! Full of mischief and playfulness, he even plays with the cats. Max is a big lover boy and a gentle giant! He didn't have a great start, but he sure has a great ending. Good for you, Max.

Delmonte

Delmonte

This 15 year old senior dog found himself in a shelter after being unfairly surrendered. Thankfully, a caring family came along and adopted him despite his age and health needs. Turns out Delmonte had a very bad dental situation going on, including extractions that needed immediate attention. His new owner reached out to us along with several other organizations for assistance towards a very costly procedure. PIN was too happy to help a family who selflessly adopted a senior dog that had little other options other than likely euthanasia in a shelter. We are happy to report he has received his surgery date with several organizations coming together along with PIN to make it happen. Delmonte's new family is very grateful for all the assistance. We wish him a successful surgery and to be forever happy in his new home.

Tali

Tali

Meet Tali, a gorgeous female Siamese who came to us via a very sad and unfortunate story. Tali lost her human to cancer and had to be re-homed. However, prior to finding a rescue group or forever home, it was discovered she had some serious dental issues that needed to be taken care of. We were contacted by the family of the deceased to see if our urgent care program could help with a medical grant to financially contribute to such a situation. Together with our friends at Gateway Pet Hospital, we were able to get Tali the dental work she needed so that the process of rehoming could begin. Then, our friends at Safe Cat agreed to take her into their foster-to-adopt program during her recovery and until forever home can be identified. Sometimes it takes a village and many organizations to solve one story. Paws in Need was happy to be a part of the solution for beautiful Tali.

Jessica

Jessica

Her owner called many organizations and groups seeking assistance for both low-cost spay options and an irritating, ongoing skin condition. After having seen two other veterinarians and the skin condition not getting any better, our friends at Castro Valley Animal Hospital saw Sweet Jessica and were able to get to the bottom of it. We were also able to provide an option for a low-cost spay procedure. Jessica's owner tells us her skin is completely healed, and they are very grateful for our assistance.

2023

Diesel

Diesel

Diesel and Guera's family contacted our organization desperate to utilize our low-cost Spay/Neuter program. Frustrated after having called multiple places to try to find a low-cost option, they found us! Full price for spay and neuter surgery, especially for a large breed, can be exorbitant. As a result, many families are not able to financially spay or neuter their pets. Paws in Need to the rescue! We were all too happy to assist this lovely family with their spay and neuter needs. Both dogs came through our program in December and were all recovered just in time for the holiday. Way to go Diesel and Guera!

Leo

Leo

This big, handsome boy was found in an industrial park amongst a feral colony in Livermore. Workers say he's been there for over two years. Our volunteer, who was there in an effort to stop the overpopulation, discovered he was friendly. Upon securing him and getting him into a veterinarian minimally to be neutered and be temperament tested for possible placement with a foster to adopt organization, it was discovered the workers are right, he is very social and friendly. You'll notice his eyes in the photo, but don't be alarmed. It was discovered he was suffering from severe entropion, which is a condition where the eye lashes grow inward and cause damage to the eye. The dark circles you see in the photo are the sutures as he is now being fostered and recovering from his eye surgery. Paws in Need was happy to neuter him through our low-cost neuter program, as well as provide some financial assistance for the entropion surgery. Now named Leo, he is feeling much better and is safe.

Tooty

Tooty

Tooty is one of many success stories our organization has been involved with over the many years. Tooty went through our low-cost Spay/Neuter program several years ago and his owner has kept in touch with us and is also a supporter. Periodically we get pictures and videos from people we have assisted with low cost spay or neuter surgeries. Tooty's owner snapped this photo in December, noting how he loves his new velvet holiday bed! We think he looks pretty comfy!

Sassy

Sassy

Sassy came to us as a medical grant request from her owner. She was diagnosed with a uterine tumor and needed surgery quickly; a costly surgery which the owner was unable to afford. Our Urgent Care Program together with Alameda Humane Health Society and the owner's understanding to borrow funds from as many friends and relatives as she could, made it possible to get Sassy the surgery she needed. She is recovering nicely at home and her owner is very grateful for all of our assistance. As we've said before, sometimes it takes more than one avenue and more than one organization for a success story. At PIN, we were happy we were able to contribute to Sassy's successful ending.

Almond

Almond

These two nutty boys were born outside in a very nice elderly man's yard in Livermore. Since he wanted to make sure they didn't just become feral, he contacted us to utilize our low cost spay/neuter program. We fixed the outdoor mother, as well as her 4 kittens, of which Almond and Walnut were a part of. After the mother recovered from her spay, she was returned to the yard where he will continue to feed her, but no more litters for her! Our friends at Safe Cat Foundation took Almond and Walnut in, along with the other two kittens into one of their quality foster homes, and they are doing great, just looking for their forever homes.

Bandit

Bandit

This masked avenger was found outside as a baby, in the parking lot of a Tri-Valley hotel. Bandit was in need of a neuter as soon as he grew to 3 pounds. We were contacted to utilize our low-cost neuter program. Despite his serious masked face, he's as sweet and friendly as can be, and lucky he was rescued from outdoors so young. His mother and siblings were eventually also found, and our program was able to fix all of them, as well. Another happy tails ending for Bandit and his whole feline family.

Max

Max

This giant love bug was found abandoned, tied to a post in a park. A family was there with their own dog when they noticed he was alone. They waited for the family, but nobody ever returned. They contacted Animal Control and prepared flyers to see if they could find the rightful owner. They fostered the dog through the stray-hold process for the county, but unfortunately, no one came forward to claim him. By this time they had fallen in love, and with Max getting along famously with their other dog, decided he was home. PIN was contacted about our low-cost spay neuter program to get Max neutered and we were all too happy to assist. It was his lucky day because this is a wonderful family who saved him and gave him an unbelievable home and second chance at life. Way to go, Max!

Frankie

Frankie

These two munchkins were found living in the backyard of a Livermore home with a very elderly man. He had been feeding their mom and didn't know she was pregnant! Next thing you know he had kittens. He contacted our organization to utilize our low-cost spay program in order to get the mother secured and fixed so this wouldn't happen again. In the meantime, our friends at Safe Cat were kind and agreed to take them into their foster-to-adopt program. Both kittens were neutered through our program by our friends at Gateway Pet Hospital and are very healthy, friendly, playful and ready for the new homes!

Cow_Girls

Elsie, Bessie & Clarabelle, found at a hotel next to the ravine in Pleasanton when trying to catch their mother, who was thought to be someone's lost pet. Turns out the mom was feral and was living there with her babies, who looked like little baby Holstein cows. We were able to secure the mother and arrange her spay surgery as soon as she stopped nursing. Our friends at Safe Cat have taken them into their foster-to-adopt program and this friendly, healthy trio of girls is on their way to finding their forever homes.

Achilles

Here is a photo of this big boy, recovering from his recent neuter surgery. His owner, having just found a property to rent, needed to utilize our low-cost neuter program immediately in order to comply with terms of the lease. We were happy to assist and commend landlords and rental property owners everywhere who will allow dogs and cats in their property as long as they are fixed! Achilles is a sweet boy and is recovering just fine in his new apartment. Although, it doesn't look like he was too happy about wearing a cone!

Ivy_2

Ivy_2

This beautiful girl had a very unfortunate accident with a hit and run driver outside her home. Her leg so badly damaged, it was beyond repair and sadly needed immediate amputation. Needless to say, the owner was devastated. She reached out to utilize our urgent care program and our friends at Veterinary Emergency Group did an amazing job and saved this dog's life. Her family is very grateful for the medical assistance grant we provided for a portion of the urgent care surgery, and Ivy is recovering nicely in her wonderful home.

Jinx

Jinx

Jinx was found in Livermore amongst a colony of adult feral cats. Just a baby at only a few weeks old, and the only kitten around, he was secured and taken into foster by a Good Samaritan. After letting Jinx adjust to his new environment for a few days, the Good Samaritan contacted us to use our low cost neuter program. He was also seeking assistance with resources to get him into a foster to adopt organization. Luckily, our friends at Feral Cat Foundation had an available foster for him, and after neuter and recovery at our vet partner Gateway Pet Hospital, he was transported into Feral Cat Foundation's foster to adopt program. Sometimes it takes two organizations to come together for a successful end. A happy tails ending for Jinx!

Francie

Francie

Francie is one lucky cat. Found as a stray in Livermore by a concerned citizen, she was living in a colony of feral cats that were beating her up, making it very difficult for her to survive there. The woman started feeding her on a regular basis to try to get her to warm up and finally after many weeks, she was able to secure her. She contacted us to utilize our low-cost spay program as she wanted to find her a new home, but wouldn't do that without fixing her first. As luck would have it, one of our Paws in Need supporters and volunteers was ready to adopt another cat, after sadly having lost hers a year ago. A meet and greet was set up and Francie was off to her new home. We have received many photos showing Francie enjoying her safe, new, indoor life!

Sparky

Sparky

Handsome Sparky was found in Livermore by some Good Samaritans who contacted our organization in the past to utilize our low cost spay neuter program for some feral cats at their employer's industrial site in Livermore. When Sparky showed up, he was instantly friendly, so they thought perhaps he was someone's lost pet. Scanned for a microchip, authorities contacted, fliers created and nobody claimed him. When nobody stepped up, the people who found him decided to keep him! Our low cost neuter program neutered him, and he's recovering nicely in his forever home.

2022

Mikey

Mikey

These two pups were a part of an accidental litter by a nice family who contacted us about spaying their family dog. This was her last litter and we immediately made arrangements to have the mom spayed under our low cost program. She has recovered and no more accidental litters for her! The family fostered the puppies until such time that there was room to get them into a rescue. The great folks at Furry Friends took the brothers into foster, they have both been neutered and are ready for their forever homes. It often takes more than one organization for success in some of these case requests.

Sylvester

Sylvester

Sylvester (tuxedo) was found behind a retail store in Dublin. He clearly didn't belong there and was young enough to be socialized and adopted out. The person who found him decided to keep him until such time he was friendly and she could find a proper home. We were contacted to utilize our low-cost neuter program so he could be fixed before he went to his forever family and we were all too happy to oblige. This is a recent photo of Sylvester in his new home with his new sibling (Russian Blue). We think Sylvester hit the jackpot!

Kittens

Kittens

These four baby kittens were saved as part of a feral spay/neuter project we were assisting with. Thankfully they were caught young enough and could be transferred into foster and adopted out. Our wonderful friends at Safe Cat took them in and Paws in Need spayed the mother cat through our low-cost spay program. The homeowner was grateful for our assistance and continues to take care of the mom cat in her yard. We hope all four kittens found their forever homes just in time for the new year.

Remi

Remi

These two siblings were in need of spaying and neutering. The owner was frantically looking for a low-cost program because all of the vet quotes were outrageous and well out of their budget. We were contacted and very happy to oblige. Our wonderful veterinary partner, Pet Advocate, fixed both of these on behalf of our organization. We are grateful for our vet partners that are still in a position to offer us charity discounts for our low cost Spay/Neuter program since and during Covid. Rip & Remi recovered nicely and no unwanted litters for these two!

Starr

Starr

Little Starr was really sick and in need of vet care quickly. Lethargic and not able to stand, we were contacted about a financial assistance grant to help with some of the costs. Our friends at Iron Horse Vet Care jumped in and we were able to get the diagnostics and treatment needed asap to save Starr. Her owner is grateful for our contribution, Starr has responded to treatment and is on the road to recovery.

Rex

Rex

This big, strong guy was found at a Livermore machine shop where a concerned employee said there were a few cats born. They were feeding them to keep them around while searching for resources to possibly assist. The cats were friendly, plus some of the employees were interested in adopting them. We were contacted so they could all utilize our low-cost spay & neuter program. The employees were able to quickly secure all 4 of them, including the mother, and they all found forever homes. We were very happy to support this local business with our low cost spay & neuter services. We love a happy tails ending and we think Rex looks pretty happy living his 100% indoor life!

Jayden

Jayden

This little Maltese mix was very much in need of urgent medical assistance. A number of issues included a serious hernia surgery as well as a mass removal. We were contacted by the owner seeking a financial assistance grant to aid in this very costly surgery. We were able to provide a second opinion through our wonderful vet partner, Iron Horse Vet Care. Jayden has now had the surgery and came through with flying colors. Hernia successfully repaired, mass removed and was benign, she is on the road to recovery and the family is very relieved. Jayden is in a great home and we were very happy to assist financially in order to provide many more healthy years.

Ivy

Ivy

This sweet girl was in urgent need of obstruction surgery or she wouldn't have made it. We were contacted by the owners to utilize our urgent care program and apply for a financial assistance grant to aid in the cost of the surgery. Very costly and only able to be done by a specialty vet, the fantastic people at Veterinary Emergency Group along with Calpaws K-9 banded together with the owners and Ivy was able to get the surgery she needed. It was a whirlwind, touch and go for 24 hours, but she came through the surgery perfectly and is safe and recovered at home. She was also able to be spayed at the same time so no unwanted litters later for Ivy. Her owners were grateful for the spay surgery, as well. It often takes more than one charity organization to help and we are proud to be aligned with quality groups like Calpaws K-9 on cases like this. They were a huge part of the success of this case.

Max

Max

This little teenaged guy was found wandering in a Dublin neighborhood all alone, friendly and not neutered. A Good Samaritan discovered him, kept an eye on him for a few weeks and then decided to try to secure him. All the necessary steps were done to see if he was a lost cat or belonged to anybody, but no microchip and nobody claimed him. We were contacted to utilize our low-cost spay/neuter program so that she could neuter him before finding him a forever home. We love when Good Samaritans are responsible and know that they should not rehome without fixing first. That's how we stop the cycle of unwanted litters! PIN was very happy to help with this and now we have been told a few weeks later that he has found his forever home. Everyone is so happy for Max!

Cider

Cider

Look at him go! We were lucky enough to help this dog who was on the euthanasia list at a local shelter. One of our trusted vets contacted us to see if we could help, she desperately wanted to keep this dog from being put down. Together we got him pulled from the shelter, secured the vet care that he needed, found a wonderful foster at one of our favorite rescue groups that we have an alliance with, he rehabilitated there and through networking, found a fantastic forever home. His new family keeps us all updated on Cider's progress, and here's a recent picture of him with his new family spending the day at an agility course with several other dogs. He has many play dates and adventures, other recent pictures also included him hiking in the Marin headlands. Many people and 2 organizations came together to make this happen for Cider. We thank his new family for giving him a great life.

Scotty

Scotty

These two feline teens were found in a horrible situation and once neutered and vaccinated could not be returned where they were originally found. The Pleasanton Good Samaritan who found them uncovered a safe Livermore ranch through friends, who agreed to relocate them to their barn and property. With kids in 4H and working ranch hands, they will be well cared for in their safe and new environment. While they may look a bit scared in the photo, we have checked in and they are doing great and are halfway through their secure relocation process until they acclimate to their new surroundings. The original person who found them is grateful for our neuter assistance through our low-cost program, and she reports they are on their way to a long and happy life with some great people. Good for Scotty & Bob!

Mae

Mae

We were contacted by Mae's owner, she needed financial assistance for some diagnostic tests due to a detected heart murmur. Mae's owner could not move forward with necessary care without further information, and we were happy to help support the diagnostics with a financial grant for a portion of the costs. Mae has had her tests and we await results. She is a very sweet dog and her owner is very grateful for the assistance from both PIN and our trusted vet partner.

Perceus

Perceus

This handsome boy was in need of a neuter surgery. His owner had come upon hard times and was unable to afford a full price procedure but understood the importance of spaying and neutering your pets. A friend of the family did some research and found us, contacted us on behalf of the owner, offering to make a contribution so our low cost program could be utilized. Perceus is doing so well after his surgery and his owner is very grateful for our program assistance.

Anjelica

Anjelica

This beautiful girl was found as a baby kitten living in a Pleasanton storage facility. Her parents were feral and her siblings were taken in to a rescue to be fostered and adopted out. But Angelica was different because she was wild and not coming around as quickly as her siblings did. Thinking her fate was to be returned to the storage facility after she was spayed, one of our volunteers knew of a family that liked challenging cases like this and was willing to give her a chance for a few months to try and socialize her. They were very patient and in the meantime fell in love with her and have decided to keep her! She now lives with her foster brother Tommy and her new family and she's really happy. Both of her parents were later fixed, all of her siblings were also adopted which was a very happy ending for this feline family.

Baby

Baby

This handsome boy was found outside by a neighbor. After inquiries, she was informed that his elderly owner had passed away. The neighbor went into action trying to formulate a plan to safely catch him, keep him safe in her apartment until he could be seen by a vet, arrange neuter surgery and then find him a forever home. We were contacted to utilize our low-cost neuter program. Baby Boy got a clean bill of health and is doing well recovering in his temporary foster home until he finds a proper forever home.

Bear

Bear

Bear was discovered by a Good Samaritan, he was an outdoor kennel dog on a ranch looking for a new start. He was too tender to work cattle so the rancher made the right decision by turning him over to her. Once surrendered, the first order of business was getting Bear in to be groomed. Then we were contacted about getting him into a quality vet to be vaccinated and neutered through our low cost program. Wonderful friends at All Fur Love grooming salon stepped up and saw Bear immediately, and PIN was able to help with his exam and neuter at Four Paws. Bear is on his way to his new life! The Good Samaritan was able to get him fostered through Bay Area German Shepherd, another great partner and organization. Sometimes it takes a village, but we are all happy to come together to give sweet Bear a new life.

Holly

Holly

Holly was found outside living in a feral colony by a Good Samaritan cat lover. Knowing right away she didn't belong there, he scooped her up and took her home to find out if she was someone's lost pet. He alerted animal control, had a local vet scan for a microchip, but there was none. Sadly, no one was looking for her, either. He contacted us to utilize our low-cost spay program so that he could find her a new home after surgery. Holly was fixed at our great vet partner, Gateway Pet Hospital and she is recovering nicely with her Good Samaritan until he finds her a wonderful new family.

2021

Penny

Penny

This blue-eyed beauty was found by a Paws in Need supporter near her home in Castro Valley. Friendly, she knew she must have a home, so she took her home with her and the search was on to locate her family. Unfortunately, Penny was also wounded and it was feared she had a broken leg. We were contacted to help with the urgent care and we were able to get her into a vet where they found a massive abscess on her shoulder which was affecting her walking. Thankfully it wasn't a broken limb! During the treatment and recovery time, the owners were found, but unfortunately no longer wanted her and put her out to fend for herself. Penny sure stumbled upon the right people because during her recovery they fell in love with her and kept her! She is living her best life with her wonderful new family and we get photos and updates regularly. This one shows her with her favorite toy, a catnip rose. We couldn't be happier for sassy, playful Penny Lane.

Ceviche

Ceviche

Regal Ceviche wasn't so regal when he was discovered up a tree by new homeowners. Left there by the former homeowner with no food, water or shelter, he was malnourished and trying to survive. A Good Samaritan neighbor took it upon herself to try and uncover what happened by asking around the block and piecing together information. Once confirmed he was abandoned, she contacted us to arrange getting him treated and neutered, so she could officially rescue him and eventually find him a forever home. He soon proved to be a loving, friendly good boy, and once he was fixed, vaccinated and fully recovered, went to his forever home. As you can see, he's much more comfortable on the bed than up in a tree! Kudos to Ceviche for hitting the jackpot with his second owners, and thanks to the wonderful, selfless neighbor who made it all happen. We love these type happy endings and are thrilled we could assist through our low cost neuter program. Thank you to our great vet partner, Adobe Pet Hospital, who made an exception to see this cat on short notice, and got him on the road to recovery.

Kiera

Kiera

This sweet girl had to have nearly all of her teeth removed due to dental disease. After getting many quotes from many different veterinary offices, we were contacted by her owner to help with a financial grant towards this major (and very costly) surgery. Determining she was otherwise healthy and could withstand surgery just fine, and hearing from our wonderful vet partner, Bishop Ranch Veterinary that this cat would greatly benefit from surgery and live a long, healthy life, we were all to happy to contribute through our urgent care fund. Kiera's owner was so grateful and we have found a lifelong supporter, as well. She has checked in with us after the surgery and reports Kiera is recovering beautifully and ready for her close ups!

Parker

Parker

Meet Parker, the cutest Boston terrier around. His owner contacted us after learning the importance of neutering your pet, but astounded at the full price quotes she was receiving. After doing some research she found us and asked if Parker could be considered for our low-cost neuter program. Our great vet partner, United Pet Hospital was able to do the neuter and Parker is now recovered and living his best life. His owner is very grateful to our organization for helping with a low cost neuter grant, especially at this trying time.

Ellie

Ellie

Little Ellie's owner contacted us along with East Bay SPCA Oakland, as her sweet little dog was in desperate need of femoral head surgery. Complex orthopedic surgeries are not something our urgent care program can accommodate. Often requiring an ortho specialist, thankfully East Bay SPCA in Oakland was able to arrange this surgery. Ellie was also in need of a spay, so the two organizations were able to come together and provide Ellie with exactly what she needed so that she can live a long and happy life with her wonderful and caring owner. Ellie's owner was able to make a contribution, the humane advocate program at the East Bay SPCA Oakland facility was able to discount the surgery, and PIN covered the spay procedure. Sometimes, it takes a village! Here is Ellie with the hospital staff right before her surgery. We have since gotten an update and she has made a full recovery!

Mikey

Mikey

Sweet Mikey was found by a longtime PIN supporter who works in San Leandro. Clearly dumped in a colony with other feral cats, he was friendly from the start. Secured by our supporter, we got him into our vet partner for exam and scan for a microchip in case he was lost. No chip and still intact, he was likely dumped as we see all too often. Temporarily named Elvis by our supporter, once he recovered from his neuter surgery, the Good Samaritan was on the hunt to find Elvis a new indoor home. He did, and they promptly renamed him Mikey! We received this photo recently from Mikey's new owners, who say he has settled in nicely. By the picture, we agree. Way to go, Mikey!

This little flower was found at a Pleasanton storage facility along with her 4 siblings. Our wonderful partners at Allie's Pals Rescue took all 5 into their bottle baby foster program where they are being cared for night and day. We worked with the owner of the storage facility along with one of their patrons to safely capture the mother of this litter, who needed a spay surgery. It was no small feat for the storage customer to secure these 5 babies, as the mother had hidden them in one of the RVs stored on the property! The owners of the RV were helpful, cooperative and understanding, and it was all a great success. All are safe and no more kittens for this location!

Harry

Harry

Prince Harry was found by one of our vet partners, Dr Cynthia Tao, who needed help with fostering and finding him a forever home. While we are not a foster organization, we wanted to help any way we could. One of our volunteers kept him temporarily until a proper rescue was uncovered who had the time and the space to help. Friends of Tracy Shelter took on the case and did a great job! As soon as he was recovered from his neuter surgery and a few minor medical issues like an ear infection, he was put up for adoption. There were many applications for our Prince, but the perfect forever home was found with a couple who are very familiar with his mixed breed, Welsh Corgi and Papillion. His new family is considering changing his name to Cider because of his beautiful coloring. We think he is adorable by any name! Many thanks to all involved who came together to save this sweet pup.

Zuko

Zuka

This regal boy was desperately in need of a neuter procedure. He had become anxious and an escape artist! His wonderful owners contacted us about our low-cost spay neuter program and we were all too happy to oblige. We got Zuko all set up at one of our vet partners, he has now recovered from his surgery and posed regally for his new photo. His parents understood the importance of neuter surgery (yay!) and are very grateful for our program!

Daisy_2

Daisy_2

Daisy Mae was found by a Paws in Need supporter when she was spending a day with friends in Oakland. She found Daisy on the street foraging for food. She scooped her up and contacted us about utilizing our low-cost spay program before trying to find her a forever home. Another Paws in Need supporter heard about this and knew her neighbor's mom (all the way in Bakersfield!) was looking for a new kitten. The road trip began and she came to the Tri Valley to meet the kitten. It was love at first sight and off Daisy went back to the Central Valley and her new life. We recently received this photo from Daisy's family, which includes the neighbor's daughter who helped make the introduction! From Oakland to Bakersfield, it's a happy tale for Daisy Mae

Charlie

Charlie

These 4 cartoon cuties were found by a Paws in Need supporter in a box on her evening walk. She scooped them up and went into action to get them the assistance and care they needed. We were lucky enough to find an experienced foster through our friends at Allie's Pals Rescue, who named them after all the girl characters in the Charlie Brown series. PIN will provide spay and neuter and APR will see they're fostered and adopted to good homes. It not only takes a village sometimes, but alliances with other like-minded organizations to get the successful result needed.

Murphy

Murphy

This friendly boy was found as a stray in horrible condition. He had clearly been neglected and was suffering on the streets for quite a while. He was in desperate need of veterinary attention and also needed to be neutered. A local Good Samaritan found him and took him to a local vet, fully intending to get him vet assistance, scanned for a microchip in case lost, and either find him a good home or take him to the county shelter. He contacted our organization to utilize our low-cost neuter program, which we were happy to help with. The ending to this great story is his founder has become very attached, Murphy got a new name, got along great with his other dog when introduced, so he decided to keep him. We think this picture is worth 1000 words, Murphy has found his safe and forever home.

Logan

Logan

This cutie pie was found at a Livermore gas station, appeared to be abandoned. A resident passing through on her way home stopped for gas and saw the dog. She inquired within and they said he had been left there and had been there all day. She took the friendly dog, alerted proper authorities, and awaited the stray hold period as his official foster through animal control. With intentions of finding him a proper forever home, she started researching places to get him neutered. She had him neutered once the stray hold period was up, and as a part of the procedure did a heartworm test, which unfortunately came out positive. Contacting Paws in Need to inquire and hopefully utilize our urgent care program for low income families, we began the long process of heartworm treatment for him, now named Logan. He's doing very well with his intense treatment, and with the help of our friends at the Humane Society in Milpitas who specialize in heartworm treatment, along with long time preferred veterinarian Dr. Cynthia Tao, we all came together to get Logan through his treatment. We are very happy to report that the woman who found him can no longer live without him and he has found his forever home. Perhaps his name should be Lucky Logan to run into such a Good Samaritan!

Maggie

Maggie

Maggie was fortunate enough to be spayed this month at our long time vet partner, Gateway Pet Hospital. Our low-cost spay/neuter program is especially important now when so many families have been impacted financially by the pandemic. PIN was all too happy to assist this family with their spay needs for beautiful Maggie.

Bonnie

Bonnie

Bonnie's owner contacted us to inquire about our low-cost spay neuter program. Weighing in at 111 lbs, and being a female, you can imagine the quotes the owners were getting for spay surgery! We are always happy to help a family get their pet fixed, especially during these trying times of the coronavirus when so many are challenged financially. Bonnie came through her surgery beautifully and is recovering in her happy home. Yay Bonnie!

Quack

Quack

Wait, I think we mean meow meow! A longtime PIN supporter's teenage son found a stray teen kitten wandering around a duck pond in a rather rural area. He was able to approach and secure her. Figuring she might be a lost kitten, he took her to a vet to be scanned for a microchip, but none was found. After exhausting efforts in the immediate area, notifying proper authorities and trying to uncover a possible owner, no inquiries were received. Ducky was able to be spayed through our low cost program and a proper forever home found. Named for her location, add a collar embellished with ducks and jewels, and we think she was not only lucky to stumble on a nice young man who saved her and found her a home, but she looks beautiful, too! Her new mom says Ducky is running the house, bossing the 2 bichon dogs around and has made herself right at home.

Appa

Handsome one-year-old malamute, Appa, was in need of a neuter. His family knew how important it was to get him fixed, but couldn't quite come up with the funds to get it done. Our low-cost spay neuter program was perfect for this situation and we were happy to assist. He's beautiful!

Braveheart

Braveheart

This wee Scottish warrior started out with the name Spotty and was quickly renamed by his foster mom after his bravery and fighting spirit were apparent. We were contacted initially about our low-cost spay and neuter program for other dogs in the household, but this one needed surrendering. Our wonderful and dedicated friends at Iron Horse Vet Care stepped up and helped locate a rescue group to take him into foster. He is thriving, scheduled for his neuter, and conquering his Kingdom.

Frost

Frost

Little Jack Frost was found outside on a ranch. Rescues were all full, so Jack's founder went into high gear to find him a suitable home. Contacting us to utilize our low cost neuter program, as soon as he was recovered from surgery he went to his forever home. This is his new moms third all white kitten! We were happy to assist with his neuter and are thrilled he found a lifetime of happiness in his new, indoor home. Thanks to the many people involved in saving him.

Grace

Grace

Or, should we say "Princess" Grace Kelly. This spoiled girl is living the life at a residence in Castlewood, her name befits her surroundings. She's queen of the outdoor castle and reigns supreme. Her owners found her as a feral adult, contacted us for advice and for spaying surgery. They were happy to let her continue living in their yard, as long as she was not able to populate her kingdom! Princess Grace may not like to have her picture taken, but her new family loves her and she now has a very good life. All hail Princess Grace.

Lenny

Lenny

Big boy Lenny was originally found behind a Safeway in San Ramon when he was a wee kitten, along with his brother, Squiggy. Not so wee anymore, he grew up to be a long haired, Maine Coon mix. Segue many years later, his family was no longer able to keep him. Adopted by a Paws in Need supporter, and now living the good life in Santa Clara with his canine sister, Birdie and his human sister, Emily. One big happy family for Lenny, who sure looks like he settled in nicely the second time around.

Dobbie

Dobbie

Handsome Dobbie was thankfully removed from a terrible situation, 100% outdoors, not neutered and infested with fleas amongst other issues. It took many people involved to save this dog and get him into his new, happy home. We were contacted by the new owners to help with the neuter through our low-cost program. We are always happy to help with such situations. Dobbie has fallen in love with his new family; he's being pampered and cared for as he should be. Thanks to everyone involved to make sure this dog was removed from that situation and find his forever home.

Brick

Brick

He was found as a stray, running the streets alone in the Tri-Valley. The Good Samaritan who found him didn't have the heart to take him to the shelter to facilitate the 30-day stray hold. Animal Control and the local shelters were all officially notified, and they all performed a great effort while he was on stray hold to uncover his owner. Not fixed, no microchip, no collar, sadly and unfortunately, a month went by and nobody was looking for him. But, don't be sad for Brick! His Good Samaritan fell in love and is officially adopting him. We were contacted to utilize our low cost neuter program, which we were all to happy to oblige. Brick looks pretty happy, too.

Jake

Jake

Jake lived outside in a San Ramon neighborhood for 6 years. Once his location was compromised, he was trapped by the caretaker so that he could be safely relocated. At that time it was uncovered he was friendly and should not live outdoors. We were contacted originally about utilizing our low cost spay neuter program, but had followed his story throughout with the caretaker of the feral colony. A former PIN Board member heard his story and decided to give him a forever home. She has since moved to Hawaii, took Jake right along with her, and here's Jake sunning in the lanai of their new home. We think he's living the good life, wouldn't you agree?

Sam

Sam

Superstar Sam Elliott got the role of a lifetime when he stumbled on his new family. Found wandering alone outside, starving for food and attention, he was taken in by a Good Samaritan and nursed back to health. After he was healthy enough, we were contacted to help with veterinary services like utilizing our low cost neuter program, before his temporary family uncovered his forever home. Named for his new mom's favorite actor, we are happy to report his new family loves him and he's settled right in to his new role of star of the house! Here he is on a supervised visit outside in the yard. We think he looks pretty happy!

Piper

Piper

When nobody claimed her, we were contacted to make sure she was fixed and up to date on vaccines before he found her forever family. She was quickly placed with a Dublin family and is living a much better life indoor, with her new siblings and feline sister. Many thanks to the security guard for helping Piper!

Cinnamon

Cinnamon

This little one was in need of a neuter surgery. Named for his color, he is just as sweet as his name. We were all too happy to help him and the owner through our low cost spay/neuter program. Our willing vet partner, Warm Springs Veterinary took great care of Cinnamon, as well as his sister, Jazz. Here he is post-surgery, on his way to recovery.

Fluffy

Fluffy

Little Fluffy needed a neuter and also found himself needing a costly hernia surgery. His family contacted us about utilizing our low cost spay neuter program, and were able to then also have the hernia repair performed during the neuter surgery. He was a brave boy and his family reports he is doing great in recovery.

Amigos

Amigos

This trio of cuties were found in a barn by a property owner. Not knowing what to do and no mother cat anywhere to be found, they scooped them up and started contacting organizations. Paws in Need tag-teamed with Allie's Pals, and together we fixed and vetted all, with Allie's stepping in and taking them into their foster program. We are still in touch with the property owner in case the mother cat shows up, as we are all too eager to spay her, too. Remember, when you find stray or abandoned kittens and puppies, a critical piece of the puzzle is to look for the mother and also spay her to stop the cycle. Meanwhile, these 3 are in good hands, on their way to forever homes.

Picotene_2

Picotene_2

You may remember Picotene from last year, born in a Livermore industrial park and found her wonderful, forever home with the aid of Allie's Pals Her owner let us know she had to see a vet recently for an eye infection, and you'll be happy to know she's all treated and recovering nicely, cone and all. Picotene was very special to us at PIN, and we love follow up stories from animals and families we've assisted.

One of the tenants was committed to saving her and contacted us about helping capture her and get her fixed so she could find her a forever home. After she was spayed she moved to Utah with her new family. Here she is on her relocation ride. This was a great success story for a neighborhood cat who was all alone in the cold for months and needed somebody to save her. A Maine Coon beauty, she's happy and safe in her new home with her 2 new brothers. Way to go Maddie.

Sparkle

Sparkle

Sparkle & Fizz rang in the New Year together in their new foster home with a great rescue group, Safe Cat. Originally dumped at an In-N-Out Burger along with their 3rd sibling, and found by the restaurant manager who contacted Paws in Need for assistance with their spay surgeries. We had them seen by our supportive partner, Gateway Pet Hospital, who spayed both girls before turning over to rescue for foster and adoption. The In-N-Out Burger manager adopted the sibling and Sparkle & Fizz are on their way to their forever home. Happy New Year!
