Giving from Your IRA

If you are age 70½ or older, a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) lets you give directly from your IRA, with meaningful tax advantages.

Why many retirees choose a QCD:

Your gift is transferred tax-free from your IRA
Once you reach age 73, it counts toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD)
It does not increase your taxable income
It may help lower your overall tax bill

Because the distribution is not counted as income, a QCD can be one of the most tax-efficient ways to give.

A note on RMDs: Required Minimum Distributions begin at age 73 and are generally taxable as ordinary income. Directing some or all of your RMD to Paws In Need through a QCD may help reduce taxes while making a lifesaving difference.
